Using openSuSE 10.3 x86_64 kernel 2.6.22.17-0.1 Nvidia 193.x.x.x driver using an identical build and update level but with arch x86_64 for the kernel drivers etc. results in correct builds each and every time.
AMD Turion ML34 x86_64 identical kernel ATI video results in correct builds all times.
It would appear that the Core Duo errata complained about by the BSD team leader a few months ago actually is a big deal. At least when you are a developer. I suspect I may have run into errata not worked around.
Anyway I had heard of page seg faults before and now I have had one. Normally openSuSE would install x86_64 arch on this machine from Version 10.0 on.
The Dell Precision M4300 is Redhat Enterprise Linux Certified and may be bought with RHEL installed. This one is dual booted with XP PRO and openSUSE 10.3
