Follow-up Comment #13, task #10088 (project lwip):

Stevens TCP/IP Illustrated Vol II says for shutdown:

for shutdown(RD) discard any data the process has not yet read and any data
that arrives after the call to shutdown()

for shutdown(WR) it is protocol specific.  For TCP it means send any
remaining data that is queued followed by the FIN.

To destroy the socket and release the descriptor close() must be called.
