Hi all!
Some time ago I found a paper that should be of interest to the folks here.
It is called "Connecting Absolutely Everything" and can be found at the IPSIL
company's website [http://www.ipsil.com/resources/whitepapers.htm]. It is
only a few pages long but still worth a read. The paper is written by H.
Shrikumar, the creator of the (at the time) world's smallest iPic web server
[http://www-ccs.cs.umass.edu/~shri/iPic.html] and founder of the IPSIL
company.
In his paper, he argues for connecting even the smallest devices to the
Internet. He also brings up the end-to-end argument has one of the strong
arguments for networked devices to run a full TCP/IP implementation instead
of relying on propriatary proxies and/or protocol converters. Finally, the
importance of correctness of TCP implementation is stressed; millions of
Internet enabled devices absolutely *have* to be good network citizens or the
Internet may very well collapse (again).
