Ok David, I don't think we're disagreeing here!  When I said lightweight
locks I meant locks when actually guarantee mutual exclusion, but which
don't perform high overhead operations like signalling other threads, etc.
It sounds like you've made the changes you need for yourself though, so I
don't need to do this in a hurry?
