Well, generally things get brought up here (as you just did) and if it's
thought to be a good idea then it will get included in the source when one
of the developers gets round to it.  If it's a bug, you can help things
along by submitting a bug report at savannah, which also ensures we don't
forget about it.

As to testing, the cvs tree is generally unstable (as you've discovered)
and testing takes place before we make a point release like 0.5.3,
although we try to keep things running in the mean time.  You can help
with testing too by telling us when things are broken.
