Hello Florian,
there are no plans to add a STABLE branch to contrib, unless all (or most) contributors
actually use it.
I would suggest that the main trunk is actually stable in contrib, and that development
occurs in a branch.
I think the current practice is that most contrib developers do internal testing and sparsely
update the sources on Savannah CVS when things become stable.
Of course I can also make a snapshot available of contrib, as some people aren't using
CVS still.
