Well the reason this came up was because Matthias didn't have semaphores, so if you don't have semaphores _or_ condition variables, you probably have bigger problems :-).
Anyway, thanks for the info, I didn't know people were selling commercially such basic systems. But also as I said, I believe you can implement a form of them on top of semaphores if you have access to a thread ID.
