Thanks for the input! That's what I have been looking for, unfortunately
in vain because version 1.3.2 did not provide these functions and
normally I don't like to upgrade third-party software in the middle of a
project. But this might have to be an exception.

If I am allowed a remark by the way: So good the software is, so poor is
the documentation. I know it's (mainly) a matter of time and I really
don't want to accuse someone. On the other hand no one except those
deeply involved in the project can actually do proper documentation.
The Wiki (http://lwip.wikia.com/wiki/LwIP_Wiki) is thoroughly out of
date and I scarcely consult it. 
Quite a good docu for the high-level API is
http://www.ecoscentric.com/ecospro/doc.cgi/html/ref/lwip-api-sequential-
reference.html. But this is specific to a product (and also not
currently up to date).
