Summary: Bittorrent/Soulseek are not working because of DNS resolv

Original Submission: Hi, this is a copy of my original post in the MLdonkey
World-forum.

Hi,

first Bittorrent: I am starting download with

dllink http://f.scarywater.net/redhat9.torrent and get this message in the
logfile:

-------------------------
Last extension: .torrent
Trying to load http://f.scarywater.net/redhat9.torrent
.torrent file loaded
Exception Sys_error("http://f.scarywater.net/redhat9.torrent: No such file or
directory") while loading
wget started
Error: f.scarywater.net: address not found
-------------------------

When I manually download the torrent.file and start the download with

dllink redhat9.torrent I get this in log:

-------------------------
Last extension: .torrent
Trying to load /disk/mldonkeyd/redhat9.torrent
.torrent file loaded
Error: f.scarywater.net: address not found
Error: f.scarywater.net: address not found
-------------------------

Trying this command: dllink http://207.44.142.96/redhat9.torrent
downloads the torrent file but does not start the download either:

-------------------------
Last extension: .torrent
Trying to load http://207.44.142.96/redhat9.torrent
.torrent file loaded
Exception Sys_error("http://207.44.142.96/redhat9.torrent: No such file or
directory") while loading
IP done 207.44.142.96:80
Request: GET /redhat9.torrent HTTP/1.0\013\nHost:
207.44.142.96\013\nUser-Agent: MLdonkey 2.4-rc11\013\nAccept: */*\013\n\013\n
wget started
ANSWER HTTP/1.1 200 OK
.torrent file loaded
Error: f.scarywater.net: address not found
-------------------------

So the problem is that MLDonkey is not able to resolve the hostname. I do *not*
run MLDonkey in chroot-environment which is suggested in the MLDonkey
mailinglist. I rather think because I am using MLDonkey on an router with libc5
it canĀ“t use glibc functions for DNS services which is considered a bug here.

I think DNS resolving should be done in MLDonkey itself without glibc. Because
of the libc5 system I am using a static core which should come with all
necessary functions built in.

With Soulseek enabled I get this messages in MLDonkey log:

-------------------------
QUERY URL http://www.slsk.org/slskinfo2
Error: www.slsk.org: address not found
-------------------------

because of the same problem I think. Opening that URL with a webbroser gives me
a normal answer:

-------------------------
139
www.slsk.org/slsk139.exe
139: Transfers will now timeout much less often. Made it easier to log on to
new server after move. Various minor changes.
--servers
slsk:slsk:mail.slsk.org:2242
-------------------------

so it has to be MLDonkey related.
---------------------------------------------------------
And some more infos:

I searched a little bit further and found this piece of info in the glibc-FAQ:
http://doc.ospu.odessa.ua/books/locale/other/glibc-faq.html#p2.22

I tried to build glibc-2.2.5 with --enable-static-nss but was not succesful in
linking libnss_files.a, libnss_dns.a and libresolv.a to mlnet.static, but with
any luck.

Greetings, spiralvoice
