Summary:  network dies

Original Submission: ever since i started using 2.4 and above, every time mld
is running for more than five minutes, my network connection (cable modem)
dies. Nothing comes from the net. The only fix is to turn off the computer,
unplug the cable modem, and restart. it must be mld because i can download iso
for hours and run xmule all night long, but i then run mld and my internet
connection dies. Activation/deactivation in the redhat (9)network control
panel doensn't help, it won't reactivate that port. it does this will all the
options 100% default (downloaded and run). thanks in advance.

I have the problem on 2.5-3 mldonkey from Debian running on a gateway doing NAT
for the LAN. But the gateway isn't behind NAT itself (obviously). How can that
be the problem ?

I (the original subimttor) have redone my linux box. mldonkey runs fine on
200-350 connections.. however, i don't have shoreall running. does anytone
else here run shorewall or masq/nat built in to the kernel? that's where the
problem lies, i think. i'm going thru a cable modem and a router now, and have
no problems with mldonk.

Hi there,

Same problem here. Cable modem Motorola Surfboard sb4200, debian with kernel
2.4.21. After around 5 minutes of mlnet working, my cable modem do not work
anymore. I cannot ping, www, e-mail... I reduced max_hard_download_rate,
max_hard_upload_rate, max_opened_connections and max_indirect_connections to
the minimum, but the problem still occurs. I have noticed that some people has
this problem, and it seems we all have cable or adsl router. Any idea?

Thanks,

Hi..

I have the same problem.. I got a 128/32 adsl connection..

I dont have any problems with other p2p conn. softwares but whenever I run
mldonkey (OS=redhat 7.3) my dsl connection losts in 3-4 mins. I set my
download.ini as max_hard_upload_rate = 2

max_hard_download_rate = 6.

max_opened_connections = 200.

But stil disconnecting. As soon as I kill mlnet my connection restores back.

the cable modem works with 2000 connections in xmule, and did the same with
emule on windows. could my firewall have the same effect?

Might be a problem with the amount of connections your cable modem supports. A
similar problem exists with DSL modems where they start blocking network
traffic cause they support not more than a certain amount of connections.

Try to reduce the used bandwith and the max connections.
