Thanks for the votes! To summarize then; this is going to be the new
functionality with regards to reloading and checking the config file.

 - The config file is *only* reloaded upon monit receiving the SIGHUP
   signal and the current automatical reload is defunct.

 - monit gets a new option -t which will make monit parse the config
   file and *only parse the config file* and exit with one or more
   error messages in case of syntax errors or with an ok message if
   the syntax in the file is okay.

 - Just to make life easier for the user I propose a new action
   argument called "reload" as in: "monit reload" which will send a
   SIGHUP signal to a running monit daemon. Do you agree?

I can take the responsibility for implementing this.
