Interesting, although this patch could not be applied to the current monit version in cvs. I also think Rory did something that fixed the problem, can't remember what it was though.

Igor Homyakov has pointed out that SuSE's package for 4.3 has
the fix; I've updated the patch for 4.4, it's attached.
