it appears different versions of the boost filesystem library have 
varying degrees of commitment to the notion of skipping "." and ".." on 
directory iteration. I've added workaround code to skip it in any case, now.

thanks for the report. sorry I've been a little behind on handling these 
the past couple days; my wife had to get her wisdom teeth out and I've 
been playing doctor.
