the shell expands the glob * to include all the entries in the
current directory. the ignore_file hook is only called when
monotone is recursively scanning directories itself, not
processing command-line arguments. by having the shell
expand the glob, you specifically asked monotone to add
the MT directory. it rejected that request.

try "monotone add ."; it should ignore the MT directory when
scanning already.
