The problem had to be solved by dropping the connection and reconnecting
(cvs ignores the missing r before the (in tree!) log command if it is
sent after a rlog command)
I silenced some errors. Note that an initial import from a server will
be very costly (somewhat improved by --since) and that monotone cvs_pull
issues log+update for every file that has changed (which are all in the
initial pull case).
It might be possible to speed this up by factoring out the log command
in the initial case. [Actually --since has to cause two non overlapping
logs]
Now I'll go after the incorrect edge attribution bug (some adjacent
checkins to _different_ files get merged even if author and changelog
disagree)

PS: It might be possible to design a cvs working tree import feature.
[Import file contents and revision information] But the need to detect
changes to the tree will quickly make this effort costly. cvs_pull
--since ~today~ is not that costly anyway.
