I already found PeekNamedPipe() to tell whether there is data available
for read. But combining this with a timeout seems to force a ReadFile
(combined with SetCommTimeout).
So all in all I seem to be doomed to use ReadFileEx() in
Netxx::Probe::ready() :-(
