This email is the result of a solicitation by monotone's output.

What I Was Doing

I am considering the use of monotone, and I was experimenting, having managed to commit some changes to a (second) branch (which I incidentally misnamed - is there any "rename branch" functionality?).  I was then
attempting to checkout that separate branch (to a different working copy), and see whether I actually had everything I needed to build the (sub-) systems I was placing in monotone.  I was finding
that I did not, and "add"ing and "commit"ing files from the original working copy, and "update"ing them to the secondary copy.

This appears to have happened because I was within a sub-tree of one of the systems (in the secondary working copy) when I attempted to execute the "update".  I tried the same thing again, and got similar results.  When I backed up to the root of the secondary working copy and tried it, it succeeded.

Perhaps a difference in *nix vs. windows - I believe win32 will let you rename files that are in use, but not directories...  Perhaps *nix allows directories as well as files...
