It's the "net.venge.monotone.is_bookkeeping_path-fixes" branch.  You
could try something like
  mtn pluck -r dbdbe17e4c91c50a2ab5bba83e5827d0b5541ce7 \
            -r 19f1659a00d3df5076f768fba98463812a182a36
which is the edge where it landed in mainline... but no guarantees.

The possibly simpler workaround is just to run ls unknown from the
root of your workspace -- the bug is only triggered when you run ls
unknown inside a subdir.
