I think we are talking about different things.
I'm talking about this:
cd foo
mtn --db .. checkout --branch foo
.. do some stuff ..
cd foo
mtn --db .. checkout --branch bar

This sounds like:
cd foo/proj_1
mtn --db .. checkout --branch proj_1
mtn --db .. checkout --branch proj_2
I do that all the time also.
