After some testing on my machine, I've noticed that the "Save modified
buffer (answering No will DESTROY CHANGES)?" prompt also has part of the
getopt string ("h?ABC:E", etc.) displayed after it. I'll look into it.

Thanks, but where exactly? I just tried building it, and slcurses.h
isn't in /usr/include, and there don't appear to be any libslang.* files
in /usr/lib either, so the configure script fails. They don't appear to
be under the /usr/local hierarchy, either.
