This is a definite point.

Given how I normally use nano, of the given options, I'd only really go
for:

    set historylog
    set nonewlines
    set nowrap
    set smooth

I'd also prefer

    set afterends
    set morespace
    set quickblank

although I could live without their being defaults.  (The first matches
mksh's word-jumping more closely, which I prefer; second allows me to
use all available screen real estate; and the third allows me to get
through messages quickly, since I'm used to the ones I get.  However,
not everyone navigates words the same way; the edges of the screen may
not be easily viewable for some other people depending on their setup;
and sometimes messages should stick around depending on what they are.)

The other options would really depend on what I'm editing.
