Follow-up Comment #1, bug #33535 (project octave):
I think that should read more like:
"fopen bails out when two output arguments are requested"
In Octave-3.2.4 this worked OK.
In Octave-3.4.0 (& Octave-3.3.90):
octave-3.4.0:2> [fid] = fopen ('classpath.txt')
fid = 3
octave-3.4.0:3> fclose (fid)
ans = 0
octave-3.4.0:4> [fid, message] = fopen ('classpath.txt')
error: invalid conversion from string to real scalar
error: file id must be a file object or integer value
(on Linux & Windows BTW)
