Follow-up Comment #2:
The orignal problem with ...
`P' -- converting to `P'
... is because "" between double-quotes has a special purpose. For example,
"t" is a tab and "n" is a new line.
If you use "/" for separating directories, or place the path in single-quotes,
then the problem will go away.
However, it may be that Octave has failed to locate ghostscript.
Please tell us what the name of the ghostscipt binary is, where it is located,
and what is returned by getenv("PATH").
