Follow-up Comment #5:

I checked in the following change to the stable branch:

I think this fixes the immediate problem of incorrect filling for assignments
that cause resizing to occur, so I'm closing this report.

We still need to solve the more general resize fill value problem, but that
will have to be done on the default branch.
