Details:

Given certain input WAVE files, the wavread function apparently attempts to
allocate way too much memory and causes my system to become unresponsive. The
files in question can be opened and played with other programs, so they are
valid to some extent. Files originating from Octave's wavwrite do not exhibit
this problem.

I'll investigate the details of the files I have that cause this crash.
