Follow-up Comment #5:

I closed it based on your comment #3, "Let's close this bug report because
there are broader bugs in the GUI right now (e.g., command window doesn't
update properly) and there are all kinds of shadow variable warnings
associated with GUI compilation."

I re-opened it, but re-titled it to your new observations in comment #4.
