Follow-up Comment #2, bug #38919 (project octave):
Actually I compile with this gcc version pretty regularly and don't see this
problem.
The point where I think things started to go wrong in this config.log:
configure:8692: checking whether gcc needs -traditional
configure:8726: result: yes
configure:8738: checking for Minix Amsterdam compiler
configure:8762: result: yes
After that almost every gcc command fails because of the -traditional option.
Also, these configure tests rely on grep. Further up in the log, I see this:
configure:6349: checking for grep that handles long lines and -e
configure:6407: result: /home//bin/ggrep
configure:6412: checking for egrep
configure:6474: result: /home//bin/ggrep -E
OP, is this a valid grep command on your system? Do you not have /bin/grep,
which configure should have preferred to any ggrep?
