Follow-up Comment #2, bug #38989 (project octave):
Agreed, your script works properly. I have another script that is similar but
shows the behaviour I observe. This one involves the figure() instruction
which appears to be significant. I also added a return since without it I had
to use ctrl+c to move on.

plot_pause

Observed behaviour:
In the initial run of plot_pause all 3 figures are painted correctly
In the second and subsequent runs of plot_pause in the same Octave session,
one of the figures is not drawn.
