Follow-up Comment #23, bug #39828 (project octave):

What about '\deg' for the degree symbol since that would now be missing.  

Also, you suggested adding the remaining TeX symbols.  Do you want to do that
or is it too much work for too little gain?

Another more global way to handle these repeated inconsistencies would be to
have a "Quirks" mode which would consult a global configuration variable
before deciding whether to do things the Octave way or the Matlab way.
