Update of bug #33615 (project octave):
Category: None => Octave Function
Status: None => Need Info
Release: 3.4.0 => dev
Operating System: Microsoft Windows => Any

Follow-up Comment #3:
Some progress on this. The first example
M = randi ([0 256], 100, 100);
imwrite (M, jet (256), "image.jpg", "jpg");
now works in the current development version of Octave.
The second example causes Octave to crash
M = randi ([0 256], 100, 100);
imwrite (M, [1 1 1; 0 0 0], "image.jpg", "jpg");
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Magick::ErrorOption'
what(): Magick: Index out of range reported by
Magick++/lib/Exception.cpp:435 (throwExceptionExplicit)
Aborted
