Follow-up Comment #1:
I think this bug is specific to gnuplot. Making the figure invisible doesn't
disable gnuplot.
Try the following:
close all
graphics_toolkit fltk
plot(rand(10,1))
surface(rand(10))
set(gca,'yaxislocation','right')
For me, the axis location moves to the right.
