Follow-up Comment #1:
Yes they are. When you see this error, though, do you still have an Octave
prompt and the interpreter still functions? If so, then this looks like an
error in the ghostscript program. I've run into several of these myself. Let
us know if that's the case and we can help you get the intermediate postscript
output that is fed to ghostscript and making it error.
