Follow-up Comment #7, bug #41819 (project octave):

I've upgraded to the 3.8.1 release.  It looks better, but it's still buggy. 
The Xs have a different weight on each diagonal.  I'm attaching four
screenshots, showing the differences between gnuplot and fltk.  

The command I used for the Xs was:

>plot(x, y, 'x', 'MarkerSize', 10);

for the sin curve it was: 

> plot (x, sin (x));

The sin curve is just for reference, as it looks fine, although the
antialiasing could look a bit smoother.
