Follow-up Comment #7, bug #41128 (project octave): A note on subplots with M>4 using the current dev system: The command: for n=1:N*M;subplot(M,N,n);plot(1:100);endfor for N=4 and M > 4 results in 3 "correct" rows, then blank space of height about M-4 and then a last "correct" row.
