That is indeed the bug.  If not those 4 lines, can you post them and tell me
what octave are you using?  Mine is the MXE build.

The ping/wait thing is not really part of the bug, just makes it a bit more
like my real IPC case.  Its possible that ping command does not universally
work as wait, so that might your first result... (if it gets stuck on the ping
command, or for example if ping writes to stderr.)  I'll upload echo_bug2.bat
without the ping waits.
