Follow-up Comment #10:

I just tested with the installed ghostscript version of 9.07 and version 9.10
that I downloaded directly and copied into the Octave bin directory.  The
newer edition works correctly.  See also this discussion:

The best course of action seems to be to update MXE to use a newer version of
ghostscript.  I'm adding John D. to the CC list since he does a lot of the
work with MXE.
