Follow-up Comment #11, bug #44360 (project octave): In terms of debugging, it would also be nice if you could start back at the most vanilla configuration/make environment possible and then slowly add options until one of them breaks things. In this case, could you run just ./configure && make && make check rather than giving CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS options? I know of at least one test for log2 which does fail when Octave is built with '-O0' and maybe there is something similar here.
