Follow-up Comment #14, bug #44415 (project octave):

Rik: Right, there appears to be nothing to be done. But,
it also appears that the various "problems" reported
here are due to some of the many anomalies in various parts
of current graphics software and hardware. The chance that
there will ever be a time such that graphics works consistently
across platforms is extremely small. We have learned to live with
this since the beginning of computer graphics.

So, as is said: this is a feature, not a bug.
