Follow-up Comment #23, bug #44007 (project octave):
BTW I just renamed msys-base/tar.exe to ..../tar_orig.exe, and deleted
usr/home/......./bin/tar.exe and usr/x86_64-mingw32/bin/tar.exe
That way I also get:
>> system ("tar_orig --version")
