Follow-up Comment #15, bug #44912 (project octave):

Can other testers report whether Dan's patch works?  The count so far is 2
working / 1 non-working.

@Guillaume: After applying Dan's patch, did you do a 'make clean' just to make
sure that there was nothing left over from a previous build?  Also, what
distribution and version of Linux are you using?  There might be something in
that as well.
