Follow-up Comment #41, bug #47372 (project octave):

I need to correct my statement from comment #16 where I tested Rik's patch
from comment #12 to eliminate the image related crashes under Windows: This
patch also DOES work fine with the current "stable" branch of the Octave repo.
All my test cases A to D are well behaved. (My formerly observed re-occurence
of bug #45372 in test case D was only caused by me, not properly updating the
Octave sources for this mxe-octave compilation.)

So now I would conclude that Rik's patch from comment #16 eliminates the
mentioned (probably memory leak induced) crashes and segfaults in both, the
Octave "default" branch as well as in the "stable" branch.

Should an Octave release 4.0.2 be ever prepared, then I would now vote for
this patch to be included there. Sorry for being a bit late with this
corrected information.
