Follow-up Comment #75, bug #47372 (project octave):

OK, I don't see any additional duplicate static variable definitions with the
default branch on Windows.  It is also not crashing on exit after running test
imread or the full __run_test_suite__.  I did have to disable the evalc tests
because those were causing a crash, but I think that is a separate issue. 
I'll try to investigate that and see if I can understand exactly where and why
it is crashing.

That was kind of painful but I think this problem is (finally!) fixed now.

Rik, Mike, and everyone else, thanks for helping to fix this long-standing
bug.
