Follow-up Comment #115, bug #41699 (project octave):

I think we set the plugins path so that Qt image functions could handle
various formats that aren't built-in to Qt by default.  Since we all Octave
(and the Qt libraries) to be installed wherever, the compiled-in plugin path
is wrong.

So, something about the qtiff library conflicts with GraphicsMagick in some
way?

Maybe the best solution IS to just link graphicsMagick directly with Octave so
that it can't be unloaded...
