Update of bug #47911 (project octave):

Summary: sombrero in gnuplot ignores colormap => edges of
mesh visible with flat shading and gnuplot toolkit

Follow-up Comment #16:

I checked in Dan's cset here
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/e6fcaea7d433). It fixes the face
color shading issue for me.

But before we're done here, I notice that there is a difference between the
toolkits when running 'demo shading'. For the 'flat' shading the edge colors
of the mesh should be invisible. Instead, for gnuplot they are a light grey.
I think this is probably intimately related to the fix for facecolor so I'm
going to leave this bug report open and re-title it.

Sample code

graphics_toolkit gnuplot
demo ('shading')

or

graphics_toolkit gnuplot
demo ('pcolor', 1)
shading flat
