Follow-up Comment #1, bug #48653 (project octave):

Did not have time to tackle this one, 
but did a little improvement adding a function java_dir 
which is useful to find the directory with configure files. 

In that directory is also the file java.opts 
and the file octave.jar which is also interesting.
