Follow-up Comment #27, bug #49216 (project octave):

All I would add is that open source OpenGL development that I've followed has
quite a bit of activity regarding drivers and such.  It certainly has its
"bugs", by which I mean a lot of elements in these drivers were written in a
fast and inexact way and as time goes on elements of the drivers get refined
and improved.  One issue is that they don't have a comprehensive test sweet to
evaluate from programmer to programmer.
