Follow-up Comment #13, bug #49454 (project octave):

You could if you like.  I think the fact that it took forever for someone to
notice this means it isn't a requirement to fix it before the next release.  I
guess if you 'hg graft' it from default to stable and there are a bunch of
merges to figure out then it can be done.
