Follow-up Comment #5, bug #45832 (project octave):
I have tested this with Octave 4.2.0 under Windows XP.
Using the test code from comment #2 I see:
* The resulting pdf files do not have "holes" any more.
* But the figures in the pdf files are now both cropped at the top.
