Follow-up Comment #7, bug #51436 (project octave):

I am trying to build on kernel 4.11.8, which does not have this bug any more.
Indeed, scilab and libreoffice which were seen to be crashing due to this
kernel bug seems to be working fine on my virtual machines.

I am trying to build without linking to openblas to try out Dmitri's
suggestion in comment #2.
