Details:

I haven't used the mapping package for several weeks but today I found that
the binary module "gdalread.oct" (invoked by rasterread.m) hadn't been built.

After trying some older mxe-octave build I found that something related to
gdal seems to have changed around the end of September.

The mxe-octave build log of of-mapping gives:

:
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for GDAL... yes
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile
config.status: creating config.h
make[2]: Entering directory
'/home/philip/devel/octdev/mxe/mxe_w64_gcc720_20170922/tmp-of-mapping/tmpX7ONjt-pkg/mapping/src'
makefile:8: gdal-config not found; GDAL library apparently not installed.
:

The build log of gdal doesn't show any errors.
